film: Ratatouille

Jerman's Rating: 2 steps forward, 1 step back. Content rating of 1 (very light). Appropriate for ages ~6 and up.

Pixar films are somehow magical, they captivate something that's rare and elusive. Looking at life from a different side, we are told a story that affects the way we see life.

Remmy the rat is passionate about food. I'm passionate about movies. People have their own passions everywhere. Ratatouille is a film about passion, failing and succeeding, responsibility, being critical, and love. These morals will speak to everyone in a different way. When I watched it, I really appreciated the passion and criticism parts. The critic's monologue at the end of the film is masterful. Its important to realize that excellence can come from anywhere. Here, excellence is being provided by a lot of talented people in California with very nice computers.

Speaking about the animation for a bit- this is Pixar's finest yet. At the end of the credits they inserted a graphic stating that the film was made entirely fresh, no motion capture or real photographs etc were used. The visual style was perfect for the feel of the film, and the way things moved was amazing. I don't think we've seen anything this good before.

This film is one of the best movies to come out in this year of very excellent films. I highly recommend it to everyone. Not everyone will love this film, but if you're a Pixar fan-you've already seen it. If you're looking for a good movie, or a date movie, or want to be amazed, then this is the movie for you.
