film: Transformers
Jerman's Rating: 3 steps forward, 1 step back. Defcon 3, not for lots of violence or 'content', just because it was pretty intense. This would be appropriate for ages 10-12 and up.
Spiderman became a moral film by character development and evolution. The strong morals in this film are already present with little evolution. The good guys stand for the right thing and keep standing for it, and the bad guys keep doin their thing. This film is about solidarity, which was a big deal in the cartoons (as I remember).
I won't spoil things for you (this time) but one character gets treated inhumanly, but stays the bigger man and doesn't take the revenge that could have easily been his. I found that really great, it was a good moment, and really makes you love the character all the more. I, however, was disappointed in the people doing the inhuman stuff, there wasn't an apology or restitution, and they didn't even help the guy out later on when he needed it. Thats the reason it got the rating it received. It wasn't a shallow action flick, it had substance, but didn't handle everything perfectly.
The music, sound were both amazing, I had goosebumps the whole time. The special effects were incredible, and flashy and organic in a robotic kind of way. (hmmm) I was very pleased with the way the plot moved and the dialog. I was worried about this film a little bit, but it didn't need to be worried about.
One more short note about the things taught, then you can stop reading and get tickets- If you have the upper hand, don't mistreat the person underneath you- and that goes for all parties and groups at play.
This film is one of the summer "must see"s. If you're a Transformers fan you need to see it, if you're not a Transformers fan you soon will be.
